Chap. 177.-An ACT to authorize the boards of supervisors or other governing
bodies of certain counties to acquire lands for the establishment of parks, play-
grounds and other recreational facilities, and to issue bonds for such purpose;
and to prescribe the conditions upon which such bonds may be issued, sold and
redeemed. [H B 234]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows:
Section 1. The board of supervisors or other governing body of any
county in the Commonwealth having a population in excess of one thou-
sand per square mile according to the last preceding United States cen-
sus, is hereby authorized to acquire such land or lands in such county as
may be necessary or desirable for the establishment of parks and play-
grounds and other recreational facilities, and to borrow money and issue
the bonds of the county for such purpose upon the conditions hereinafter
provided.
Section 2. The circuit court of the county, or the judge thereof in
vacation, upon the petition of one thousand qualified voters of the said
county, shall make an order requiring the judges of election at the regu-
lar election held in November of any year to open a poll and take the
sense of the qualified voters of the county on the question whether the
goyerning body shall issue bonds for said purposes. Such referendum
shall be held and conducted and the results ascertained and certified as
provided in section one hundred and ninety-seven-a of the Code of Vir-
ginia.
Section 3. If it shall appear from the report of the commissioners
of election that a majority of the qualified voters of the county voting on
the question are in favor of 1 issuing bonds for the purposes aforesaid, the
circuit court, or the judge thereof in vacation, shall enter of record an
order requiring the governing body of such county to proceed to carry
out the wishes of the voters as expressed at the said election.
Section 4. If said governing body shall be authorized to issue bonds
for such purposes, the said body shall proceed to issue such bonds in the
manner prescribed in chapter one hundred and sixty-one of the Acts of
the General Assembly of nineteen hundred and twenty-six, as amended,
supplying the name of the county wherein the same may be indicated, as
fully as if the terms of said chapter one hundred and sixty-one were fully
set out herein.
