Pittsylvania County, on U. S. Route No. 29 the “Rawley White Martin Me-

Whereas, Dr.. Rawley White Martin, born Pittsylvania County,
Virginia, September thirtieth, eighteen hundred and thirty-five—died
April twelfth, nineteen hundred and twelve, Lieutenant Colonel in Con-
federate Army, Fifty-third Virginia Regiment, and first man over stone
fence in Pickett’s historic charge at Gettysburg, a patriot, soldier, doctor,
counselor, friend, a servant of God, ministering to suffering humanity,
was a man beloved, and it is fitting to perpetuate his memory; now,
therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows:
That the bridge over Banister River, three miles south of Chatham,
Pittsylvania County, on United States Highway Number twenty-nine,
be named “Rawley White Martin Memorial Bridge,” and the State
Highway Commissioner is directed to mark it accordingly.
