Chap. 67.—An ACT to Incorporate the Bridgewater and Mount Crawford
Turnpike Company.
In force February 7, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That for the pur-
pose of constructing a turnpike road from the town of Bridge-
water, in the county of Rockingham, to the depot on the valley
railroad nearest Mount Crawford, it shall be lawful to open
books for receiving subscriptions to an amount not exceeding ten
thousand dollars, to be divided into shares of twenty-five dol-
lars ench. The said books shall be opened at Bridgewater,
under the direction of J. W. F. Allemong, G. W. Berlin, John
W. Jacobs, Dr. J. G. Minor, Dr. George H. Dinges and C.
Miller, or any three of them, and at such other place or places,
and under the direction of such agents, as any three of the
above-named commissioners shall appoint.
2. When one hundred shares shall have been subscribed, the
subscribers, their executors, administrators and assigns, shall
be and are hereby incorporated into a company by the name
and style of * The Bridgewater and Mount Crawford Turnpike
Company,” conformably to the provisions of the Code of Vir-
ginia and acts amendatory thereof and supplemental thereto:
‘provided that the said company shall not be required to pave
or cover their road with stone or gravel, nor to make a summer
or side road; that the said road shall be cleared at least thirty
feet wide and constructed at least eighteen feet wide: pro-
vided, also, that: the subscribers to the stock of said company
may, at the election of the shareholders, pay the amount of
their subscriptions, or any part thereof, either in money or in
labor, work, material and services, at such rates or priccs as.
may be fixed by the board of directors of said company.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
