Chap. 365.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact an Act Approved March
30, 1871, Entitled ‘‘An Act to Amend the 27th Section of the School
Bill.”

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
an act approved March thirtieth, eighteen hundred and seventy-
one, entitled an act to amend the twenty-seventh section of the
school bill, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
_ 1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section twenty-seven of an act approved July the eleventh,
eighteen hundred and seventy, entitled an act to establish and
maintain a uniform system of public free schools, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
§ 27. The districts shall correspond in boundaries with the
townships, except that incorporated towns of more than five
hundred and less than five thousand inhabitants shall, if the
council of such town so elect, constitute a separate school dis-
trict ; and upon the application of such council, the board of
education shall appoint school trustees for such town under
the provisions of the fifteenth section of the school law, and
the board of education shall have power to authorize any sub-
districting of the township which, in its judgment, will facili-
tate school arrangements, but which will not create new cor-
porations.
