Chap. 56.—An ACT to amend and re-cnact Section 3 of an act entitled “An act to
incorporate the town of Glade Spring, in the county of Washington.’’, approved
March 8, 1875, so as to provide for the election of the sergeant. [H B 104]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That
Section three of an act entitled ‘‘An act to incorporate the town of
Glade Spring, in the county of Washington.”’, approved March eighth,
eighteen hundred and seventy-five, be amended and re-enacted so as
to read as follows:
Section 3. Noah C. Baldwin is hereby appointed Mayor of said
town, and James S. Jones, Martin Van Buren Edmundson, John B.
Allison, Benjamin D. Ligon, Benjamin W. Curtis, and Eldred R.
Baylor, are hereby appointed councilmen thereof, any three of whom
shall constitute a quorum fer the transaction of business. The town
shall have a sergeant who shall be elected by the qualified voters of
the town, whose term of office shall be coincident with that of the
mayor and councilmen, and whose duties shall be as prescribed by
law. The said mayor and council shall have power to appoint such
other officers as may be necessary together with a police force for the
preservation of order, who shall remain in office until their successors
are appointed and qualified according to law. The said mayor and
councilmen above named and appointed in this act, shall continue
in office until the fourth Thursday in May, eighteen hundred and
seventy-five, and thereafter until their successors shall be elected and
qualified.
