Chap. 404.—An ACT to amend an act entitled ‘‘An act to provide a new charter for
the town of Narrows and to repeal all other acts and parts of acts in conflict
with the provisions of this act.”, approved March 24, 1920, by adding thereto a
new section numbered Section 5-a, to provide that the council may by ordinance
regulate the height and construction of buildings and the materials used therein;
require building permits; prohibit the erection of wooden buildings in certain
areas; require the removal or reconstruction of buildings under certain circum-
stances; and to prescribe punishment for violations of any such ordinance.

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That an
act entitled ‘‘An act to provide a new charter for the town of Narrows
and to repeal all other acts and parts of acts in conflict with the pro-
visions of this act.’’, approved March twenty-fourth, nineteen hundred
and twenty, be amended by adding thereto a new section numbered
Section 5-a, which new section shall read as follows:
Section 5-a. The council shall have power and authority, by
ordinance passed and adopted in the manner prescribed by law, to
regulate the height and construction of buildings hereafter erected
in the town,.and the kinds of materials to be used in such buildings;
to require any person desiring to erect a new building, or make any
addition to an'existing building, to apply to and procure from the
council a permit. therefor before commencing work thereon; to pro-
hibit the erection of wooden buildings within designated areas; to
require the removal, or reconstruction of any building or structure
which by reason of dilapidation, decay, defect in construction, or any
other cause, may have become dangerous to life, or the property of
other persons; and to prescribe punishments for violations of any of
the provisions of any such ordinance.
