Chap. 282.—An ACT to provide for the sterilization of all bottles, jugs, cans, barrels
and containers used in the packing, bottling, storage, distribution and sale of
non-alcoholic beverage and drink products, (S B 304]

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virzinia as follows:
Section 1. All bottles, jugs, cans, barrels and containers used in
the packing, bottling, storage, distribution and sale of non-alcoholic
beverage and drink products must be sterilized before using by one
of the following methods: }
(a) By sterilization with boiling water or live steam;
(b) By soaking in a hot caustic solution that shall contain not
less than three per centum alkali, of which not less than sixty per
centum is caustic, or its equivalent in cleansing or germicidal effec-
tiveness as such solutions are commonly used in the soaker-type
washing and sterilizing equipment.
It is also provided that if during any period when the General
Assembly of Virginia is not in session other equally :fficient methods
of sterilization shall be developed, the Commissioner of Agriculture
and Immigration is authorized to approve any such other efficient
methods of sterilization.
Section 2. Any violation of the provisions of tais act or failure
to comply with such provisions shall be a misdemeanor and punishable
as such.
