Chap. 183.—An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 7, Chapter 2, of an act en-
titled ‘‘An Act to provide a new charter for the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia,
and to repeal the existing charter of said city, and all other acts or parts of
acts in conflict herewith.’’, approved March 29, 1932. [H B 3314]

1. Beit enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion seven, chapter two, of an act entitled “‘An Act to provide a new
charter for the city of Fredericksburg, Virginia, and to repeal the
existing charter of said city, and all other acts or parts of acts in con-
flict herewith.”’, approved March twenty-ninth, nineteen hundred and
thirty-two, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 7. The council shall consist of twelve members, who shall
hold office for a term of four years from the first day of September,
next ensuing their election, unless sooner removed by death, resigna-
tion or other cause. Members of the council shall be elected at large
and all ward lines now existing are abolished.
There shall be elected on the second Tuesday in June, nineteen
hundred and forty, six members, and every two years thereafter on the
same date, six members.
Vacancies in the council shall be filled within thirty days by a
recorded majority vote of the council, and those elected to fill such
vacancies shall hold office for the unexpired term of the councilmen
whose places they fill, unless sooner removed by death, resignation or
other cause.
Members of the council shall be qualified electors of the city and
shall hold no other public office while serving as such, except that of
notary public. |
2. An emergency existing by reason of the election in June, nine-
teen hundred and forty, this act shall be in force from its passage.
