Chap. 163.—An ACT to authorize and direct the State Highway Commission to
take into the secondary system of State highways certain roads in and adjacent
to the Prince Edward State Forest, the Surrender Grounds State Forest and
Cumberland State Forest under certain conditions. [S B 183]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That if
and when the State Highway Commission shall acquire such ease-
ments and rights of way as shall be satisfactory to the said Commis-
sion, from the proper authorities of the United States of America, a:
hereinafter provided, the said Commission is hereby authorized anc
directed to incorporate into the secondary system of State highway:
the several roads hereinafter described, which, when so incorporated
shall constitute parts of the said system for the purposes of con
struction, reconstruction, improvement, maintenance and repair
namely:
(1) A certain road running through the Prince Edward State
Forest, and through certain private lands adjacent thereto in Prince
Edward County, beginning at a point approximately one and one.
half miles northwest of Green Bay on Route one hundred and thirty-
five, where the said road intersects with the said Route one hundrec
and thirty-five, and running in an easterly direction to that part ol
the said State Forest known as the Goodwin Recreational Area.
thence in an easterly and southeasterly direction through the saic
State forest and over certain private lands to its intersection with
Route three hundred and sixty, together with a certain piece of road
running from its intersection with the road hereinabove described, to
that part of the said State forest known as the Prince Edward Recrea-
tional Area, which roads aggregate a distance of approximately six
and one-half miles.
(2) Acertain road running through the Surrender Grounds State
Forest, partly in Appomattox county and partly in Buckingham
county, beginning at Anderson’s store in the village of Andersonville
in Buckingham county and running in a southwesterly direction
through the said State forest, following generally the meanderings of
the course followed by Route six hundred and forty as it heretofore
existed prior to the time that the said forest was ceded to the United
States, to its intersection with a certain road running in a north-
westerly direction along the course formerly followed by Route six
hundred and twenty-six prior to the said cession, together with the
said road which follows generally the course formerly followed by the
said Route six hundred and twenty-six, northwestwardly from the
said intersection to its intersection with Route twenty-four, and
southeastwardly and eastwardly to the 4-H Club camp located on
the west side of Holliday Lake, and also a certain piece of road ex-
tending from the said lake in a northwesterly direction to a point
where it intersects with the said road running from Anderson’s store
to the said road which intersects with Route twenty-four, which roads
aggregate a distance of approximately twenty-seven and one-half
miles.
(3) Accertain road running through the Cumberland State Forest
in Cumberland County beginning at a point on United States Route
sixty about one mile west of the intersection of Routes forty-five
and sixty and running in a northerly direction to Winston Lake,
thence in a northeasterly direction to Bear Lake and the Bear Creek
Recreational Area and thence to its intersection with Route six
nundred and twenty-two of the secondary system of State highways,
constituting a total of approximately seven and one-half miles.
2. Be it further enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia.
That the State Highway Commission be, and it is hereby authorized
and directed to enter into negotiations with the proper authorities of
the United States of America for the purpose of acquiring such ease-
ments and rights of way as shall be satisfactory to the said Commis-
sion and necessary for the construction, reconstruction, improvement,
maintenance and repair of the several roads hereinabove authorized
and directed to be taken into the secondary system of State highways.
