Chap. 305.— An ACT to Extend the Charter of the Salem and Newcastle
Turnpike Company, in the Counties of Roanoke and Craig.
In force March 26, 1872,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the rights and privileges conferred by the charter of the
“Salem and Newcastle Turnpike Company,” under the act of
March twenty-first, eighteen hundred and thirty-eight, and
amended February eleventh, eighteen hundred and thirty-nine,
be and they are hereby extended for the benefit of William W.
Good, late owner of said road, for the period of fifteen years,
beginning at the date of the passage of this act.
2. Be it further enacted, That the said William W. Good,
owning said road, and his successors, be subject to all the
reculations now prescribed by law for the government and
control of turnpike companies, with this further provision,
that should the gates of said road be thrown open and remain
open for the period of sixty days at any one time, the nghts
hereby conferred shall be deemed to be revoked.
3. Be it further enacted, That it shall be lawful for either
the circuit or county courts of Roanoke or Craig counties, at
any time after the expiration of the period above recited, or
after the privileges hereby conferred are abandoned or for-
feited, to authorize the receiving of toll upon said road under
such restrictions as the said courts may prescribe, that are
consistent with the general turnpike laws: provided, that any
party or parties who may desire to apply for the benetits con-
ferred by this section shall post a written notice of their in-
tention, for thirty days previous to applying to court, on the
front door of the court-house of Roanoke and Craig counties,
and at two public places on said road.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
Chap.. 3806.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the Fifth Section of the
Act to Incorporate the Alexandria Duck Company, passed February
6th, 1867,
In torce March 26, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the fifth
section of the act to incorporate the Alexandria Dock Com-
pany, passed the sixth day of February, eighteen hundred and
sixty-seven, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as
follows:
m “$5. And be it further enacted, That the works of said
company shall be begun on or before the first day of January,
eighteen hundred and seventy-five, and completed within five
years thereafter.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
