Chap. 220,—An ACT to Incorporate the Pittsylvania and Henry Railroad
Company.
Approved March 18, 1872.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, Thatit shall
be lawful to open books of subscription at Pittsylvania Court-
house, under the superintendence of James M. Whittle, George
H. Gilmer, Wilham M. Tredway. sr., Jesse H. Hargrove, Rich-
ard White, David H. Pannill and Wiliam EI. Simms; and at Lea-
therwood's store, in Henry county, under the superintendence
of B. T. Gravely, Joseph M. Gravely, Wm. W. Gilbert, John T.
Hayden, B. F. Dyer, Thomas Gravely, Henry D. Peters and John
F. Pedigo; and at Henry Court-house, under the superintendence
of James M. Smith, Ligmond Patzel, C. ¥. Thomas, George
W. Booker, Fleming Saunders and G. F. Griges, for the capi-
tal stock for a company under the corporate, name of the Pitt-
sylvania and Henry Railroad Company, for the purpose of
eonstructing a railroad between Pittsylvania Court-house and
Henry Court-house, which said road may be of the gauge
generally in use on the Virginia railroads, or may be con-
structed in the manner of the narrow gauge railroad. Any
three of the commissioners appointed at each place respectively
may act as if alone named; and the commissioners are author-
ized to receive subscriptions, payable in money, Jabor (to be
done on said road), material (to be used in its construction), or
land; and it shall also be lawful for corporations domiciled
either in or out of this state to subscribe to'the capital stock
of said company.
2. It shall be lawful for the counties of Pittsylvania and
Henry, or for any township of either county, to subscribe to the
capital stock of the said company in the manner and form as
now prescribed by law.
3. That the capital stock shall not be less than twenty thou-
sand dollars, and not more than tive hundred thonsand dollars,
to be divided in shares of ten dollars each. Whenever the
said first mentioned amount shall be subscribed, tle subseri-
bers shall be and are hereby declared a corporation by the
name of the Pittsylvania and Henry Railroad Company, for the
purposes mentioned in the first section of this act, and shall
have full power to effect the same, and is subject to all general
laws applicable to such corporations not in conflict with this
act.
4. That the company may borrow such sums of moncy as it
may deem necessary for the construction and business of its
roads, and may execute liens upon its property, franchises and
revenues, to secure the payment of principal and intcrest of
such loans.
5. The work on the said road shall be commenced within
two years, and be completed within five years.
6. This act shall be in force from its passage.
