Chap. 277.——-An ACT to amend and re-enact Section 3 and 18 of an act entitled
“An act to provide a charter for the city of Buena Vista”, approved February
15, 1892, as amended, in relation to certain officers, and to repeal Section
22 of said act, as amended. [H B 553]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tons three and eighteen of an act entitled an act to provide a charter
for the city of Buena Vista, approved February fifteenth, eighteen hun-
dred and ninety-two, as amended, be amended and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:

Section 3. The municipal officers of the said city shall consist
of a mayor, a treasurer, twelve councilmen, a clerk of the circuit
court, an attorney for the Commonwealth, a commissioner of the
revenue, a sergeant, a coroner, a justice of the peace for each ward and
a constable for the city.

Section 18. The clerk of the corporation court shall continue in
office as clerk of the circuit court of the city of Buena Vista from
the time such circuit court shall have commenced, or shall commence,
functioning until the expiration of the term for which he was elected,
and at the general election in said city on the Tuesday after the first
Monday in November next preceding the expiration of his term of
office, and every eight years thereafter, there shall be elected a clerk
of said circuit court for a term of eight years. The clerk of said
circuit court shall have the same powers and authority and be charged
with the same duties within the limits of said city as are provided by
law with respect to clerks of circuit courts of counties, so far as appli-
cable, and shall receive such fees as are allowed such clerks by law
for similar services and in addition thereto, such compensation as the
council may prescribe.

2. Be it further enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia,
That section twenty-two of an act entitled an act to provide a charter
for the city of Buena Vista, approved February fifteenth, eighteen
hundred and ninety-two, as amended, be, and the same is, hereby re-
pealed.

3. An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its
passage.
