Chap. 195.—An ACT to Apportion the Representation of the State of Vir
ginia in the Congress of the United States.

Approved March 13, 1872.

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the repre-
sentation of the state of Virzinia, in the congress of the United
States, shall be and is hereby apportioned as follows :

The counties of Accomack, Northampton, Gloucester, Ma-
thews, Middlesex, Essex, King Wilham, King & Queen, Nor-
thumbcrland, Lancaster, Ric Hameavd county, W estimoxeland. King
George, Stafford, Prince William and Spotsylvania, and city of
Fredericksburg, shall form the first conzressional district.

The cities o: Norfolk and Portsmouth, and the counties of
Norfolk, Princess Anne, Nansemond, Isle of Wieht, Elizabeth
city, York, Warwick, James City, city of Wilhamsbury, Charles
City, New Kent, Sussex, Southampton, Surry and Prinec
George, shall form the second congressional district.
Richmond city and the counties of* Henrico, Chesterfield,
Hanover, Caroline and Louisa, shall form the third con-
pressional district.
| Thecity of Petersburg and the counties of Dinwiddie, Bruns-
wick, Mecklenburg, Lunenburg, Nottoway, Amelia, Greenes-
ville, Prince Edward, Charlotte, Powhatan and Cumberland,
shall form the fourth congressional district.

The counties of Halifax, Pittsylvania, Henry, Frankhn,
Patrick, Floyd, Carroll and Grayson, and the town of Danville,
shall form the fifth congressional district.

The counties of Alleghany, Botetourt, Bedford, Rockbridge,
Campbell, city of Lynchburg, Amherst, ‘Appomattox, Bucking.
ham and Nelson, shall form the sixth congressional district.

The counties of Bath, Highland, Augusta, city of Staunton.
Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Albemarle, town of Char
lottesville, Greene, Fluvanna and Goochland, shall form the
seventh congressional district.

The counties of Frederick, city of Winchester, Clarke, War
ren, Loudoun, Alexandria county and city, Fairfax, Fauquier
Rappahannock, Madison, Orange and Culpeper, shall form the
eighth congressional district.

The counties of Lee, Scott, Wise, Buchanan, Washington
Russell, Tazewell, Smyth, Wythe, Pulaski, Bland, Montgomery
Giles, Roanoke and Craig, shall form the ninth congressiona
district.

2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
