1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
fifteen hundred and fifty-three of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1553. The board of supervisors of any county and the
council of any city may appropriate a sum sufficient for the care, treat-
ment and transportation of any person of such county or city who has
been bitten by or exposed to an animal suspected of having rabies
or hydrophobia. Any such person injured or exposed, as aforesaid,
may be sent to any hospital or sanatorium either within or without this
State, at the discretion of the board of supervisors or of the council,
as the case may be, to remain such time as said board or council may
determine.
