Chap. 18.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the 28th Chapter of the Aots
of 1866-7, so as to Provide for the Payment of Interest upon the Daw-
son Fund.
Approved January 18, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That an act passed
March nineteenth, one thousand eight hundred and sixty-seven,
entitled an act authorizing the payment of the unpaid interest
due from the Dawson fund to the counties of Nelson and Al-
bemarle be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
‘Whereas, it is represented to the general assembly of Vir-
ginia that a fund was devised by Martin Dawson, for educa-
tional purposes, to the counties of Nelson and Albemarle, two
thirds thereof to the latter and one-third to the former county,
and that said fund, ora portion of it, was invested in certifi-¢
cates of the registered debt of Virginia, or in bonds guaranteed
by the state: therefore,
“1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the auditor
of public accounts be and is hereby authorized and directed to
draw on the public treasury in favor of the treasurer of the
county of Nelson for the interest now due, and as it shall be
come due, upon her share of said fund ; and in favor of the treas-
urer of Albemarle county for the interest now due and as it shall
become due upon her share of said fund; and the said auditor
is authorized and directed to draw on the public treasury in
favor of the said treasurer of Nelson county for the entire in-
terest now due, and which may hereafter become due, as it
shall become due, and payable in Virginia state stock held on
account of Nelson county, being an investment of an undrawn
school quota accruing from the said Dawson fund.
«¢2. All moneys received by the treasurers of the said coun-
ties of Nelson and Albemarle, under the provisions of this act,
shall be kept and disbursed by them according to the provi-
sions of the public free school law of the state; and the same
is hereby declared to be subject to the control and manage-
ment of the county superintendents of schools for the said
counties of Nelson and Albemarle in lke manner as any other
school fund, except that the same shall be applied in accord-
ance with the intention of the donor, for the education of the
shildren of said counties.
“3. This act shall be in force from its passage.”
