Chap. 130.—An ACT to Amend the Charter of the Tredegar Company.
In force March 4, 1872.
1. Beit enacted by the general assembly, That the act passed
the twenty-first day of February, in the year eighteen hundred
and sixty-seven, entitled an act to amend and re-enact the first
section of the act passed the first day of February, eighteen
hundred and sixty-seven, entitled an act to amend and re-enact
the first section of an act entitled an act to incorporate “The
Tredegar Company, passed February twenty-third, eighteen
hundred and sixty-six, be amended and re-enacted so as to read
as follows:
“1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the first
section of the act passed the first day of February, in the year
eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, entitled an act to amend and
re-enact the first section of an act entitled an act to incorpo-
rate The Tredegar Company, passed February twenty-third,
eighteen hundred and sixty-six, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
“1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the first
section of the act entitled an act to incorporate The Tredegar
Company, passed February twenty-third, eighteen hundred and
sixty-six, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
Joseph R. Anderson, John F. Tanner, Robert Archer, Robert
S. Archer and Archer Anderson, and their associates and suc-
cessors, or & majority of them, are hereby created and consti-
tuted a body politic and corporate, by the name and style of
“The Tredegar Company,’ for the purpose of holding and
possessing real estate in the counties of Augusta, Alleghany,
Rockbridge, Botetourt, Goochland, Henrico and Chesterfield,
and in the city of Richmond, in the state of Virginia, not ex-
ceeding ten thousand acres in the county of Augusta, ten
thousand acres in the county of Alleghany, ten thousand acres
in the county of Rockbridge, fifty thousand acres in the county
of Botetourt, ten thousand acres in each of the counties of
Goochland and Henrico, and two thousand acres in the county
of Chesterfield and city of Richmond together, and other pro-
perty, and of mining, transporting and manufacturing, and of
holding stock in companies for mining, transporting and man-
ufacturing, and in other incorporated companies, and of guar-
anteeing their bonds; and by that name and style shall have
perpetual succession, may contract and be contracted with, sue
and be sued, plead and be impleaded, in all courts and places;
have a common seal, and all the rights and privileges of a cor-
poration, and be subject to all the rules, regulations and re-
strictions imposed by the Code of Virginia in relation to joint
stock companies, so far as they are applicable to and not in
consistent with the provisions of this act: provided, that the
said Tredegar Company shall not be subject to the restrictions
imposed by the first clause of the thirty-fifth section of the
fifty-seventh chapter of the Code of eighteen hundred and
sixty.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
