Chap. 111.—An ACT to Incorporate the Alexandria Passenger Railway
Company.
Approved February 21, 1872.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it shall be
lawful to open books of subscription in the city of Alexandria,
ander the direction of Montgomery D. Corse, Paul J. White,
William H. Beck, Robert F. Knox, and Andrew Jamieson, or
any three of them, for the purpose of receiving subscriptions
to an amount not exceeding one hundred thousand dollars, in
shares of twenty-five dollars each, to constitute the capital
stock of a company to be called the Alexandria Passenger
Railway Company, to be empowered to construct and operate
a railroad from a point in the said city to be fixed by said com-
pany, upon such streets therein as the corporate authorities
may consent to be so used, and upon the roads of the Little
River Turnpike Company and the Middle Turnpike Company,
and by. such other route or routes as the said railroad company
may select, to any distance not exceeding five miles west of the
Potomac river, in Fairfax or Alexandria county.
2. The said company shall be a body corporate when two
hundred shares of the said stock shall bé subscribed, and shall
be entitled to all the rights and powers, and shall be subject to
all the provisions granted to or imposed upon such corpora-
tions by the laws of this state, and not inconsistent with
this act.
3. The said company shall have power to borrow money on
its bonds or other evidence of debt, at rates of interest not
exceeding those allowed by law, and to secure the payment
thereof by deed of trust or mortgage upon its road and other
property, its franchise and income, or any of them.
4. This act shall be in force from its passage.
