Approved February 26, 1936
1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows:
Section 1. The special board of directors of the Eastern State
Hospital at Williamsburg is hereby authorized to accept a gift of
twenty-five thousand dollars from Colonial Williamsburg, Incorporated,
upon the condition that no new capital expenditures shall be made in
and about the present plant of the said hospital within the corporate
limits of the city of Williamsburg; provided, however, that this condi-
tion shall not be construed to limit or affect the rights of the said board
to provide for necessary maintenance of and repairs to its present
structures and equipment in the said city, or to erect a nurses’ home,
quarters for the staff, and mechanical buildings, which latter buildings
may also house a paint shop, carpenter shop and a general repair shop,
if such buildings are deemed necessary pending the development of the
policy expressed in section three of this act, and are authorized by law.
Section 2. The said sum of twenty-five thousand dollars, when re-
ceived, shall be, and is hereby, appropriated to the special board of
directors of Eastern State Hospital at Williamsburg, to be used in the
construction of a water supply and sewerage system for the Dunbar
farm unit of the Eastern State Hospital in James City county, Virginia.
Such money shall be paid into the State treasury to the credit of the
general fund and shall be expended upon warrants of the Comptroller
issued upon vouchers signed by the chairman of the said special board
or by some one duly authorized by it to approve and sign said vouchers.
Section 3. It is hereby declared to be the policy of the State of
Virginia, in authorizing the acceptance of this gift, to transfer, as soon
as may be practicable in the light of future appropriations, the present
plant of the Eastern State Hospital from the corporate limits of the
city of Williamsburg to Dunbar farm in James City county, Virginia.
