Chap. 21.—An ACT to broaden the plea of general issue in actions of trespass
and make it similar to the plea of general issue in actions of trespass on the

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
plea of general issue in an action of trespass, whether brought by writ
or notice of motion shall be a broad general issue, similar to the plea
of general issue in an action of trespass on the case, and any matter
may be proved under the general issue in an action of trespass which
might be proved under the plea of general issue in an action of tres-
pass on the case. The law as to grounds of defense, statements of
contributory negligence and other rules of pleading shall apply under
this statute as in actions of trespass on the case.
