Chap. 319.—An ACT to prohibit the sale or exchange on the open market, within
this State, of goods, wares and merchandise prepared or manufactured by
convicts or prisoners of other states; and to prescribe penalties for violations
thereof; and to repeal all acts or parts of acts inconsistent therewith.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, as follows: ©
1. It shall be unlawful for any person within this State to buy, or
acquire bv exchange on the onen market either far hic awn wee ar far
the purpose of re-sale, or for any person to sell or exchange on the
open market, within this State, any goods, wares or merchandise pre-
pared in whole or in part, or manufactured, by convicts or prisoners,
other than convicts or prisoners on parole or probation, of any other
state.
2. Any person, or any agent or manager for any person, who shall
violate any provision of this act shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and
shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine of not more than
five hundred dollars or imprisonment for not more than one year, or
both in the discretion of the court or jury trying the case.
3. All acts or parts of acts inconsistent with the provisions of this
act are hereby repealed to the extent of such inconsistency.
4. Anemergency existing this act shall be in force from its passage.
