Chap. 157.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 64 of chapter 342, Acts of the
General Assembly of Virginia, 1932, approved March 26, 1932, and designated
and cited as the Motor Vehicle Code of Virginia. [H B 233]

I. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That section
sixty-four of chapter three hundred and forty two, Acts of the General
Assembly of Virginia, nineteen hundred and thirty-two, approved March
twenty-sixth, nineteen hundred and thirty-two and designated and cited
as the Motor Vehicle Code of Virginia, be amended and re-enacted so
as to read as follows:
Section 64. When speed limit is not applicable——The speed limita-
tions set forth in this chapter of this act shall not apply to vehicles
when operated with due regard for safety under the direction of the
police in the chase or apprehension of violators of the law or of persons
charged with or suspected of any such violations, nor to fire department
vehicles when traveling in response to a fire alarm or pulmotor call nor
to county or municipal ambulances when traveling in emergencies. This
exemption shall not, however, protect the driver of any such vehicle
from the consequences of a reckless disregard of the safety of others.
