Chap. 148.—An ACT to amend the Code of Virginia by adding to chapter 124
thereof a new section numbered 3120-a prohibiting special justices, who are
judges or justices of any civil court, civil and police court or police court in
certain cities from practicing law. [H B 96]

1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Virginia, That the
Code of Virginia be amended by adding to chapter one hundred and
twenty-four thereof a new section numbered thirty-one hundred and
twenty-a, which new section shall read as follows:
Séction 3120-a. It shall hereafter be unlawful for any special
justice of the peace, who is a civil justice, police justice, and/or civil
and police justice of any court of any city having a populaton of more
than one hundred and seventy-five thousand, according to the last pre-
ceding United States census, to engage in the private practice of law,
provided nothing herein contained shall be construed to prevent any
such justice from completing any unfinished business he may now be
conducting.
The provisions of this section shall neither apply to nor prohibit
any substitute for any such special justice of the peace from engaging
in the private practice of law.
All acts, special and private, including charter provisions, incon-
sistent with the provisions of this section are hereby repealed to the
extent of such inconsistency.
