Chap. 88.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the 5th Section of an Act,
Entitled an Act to Provide a Charter for the Town of Front Royal, Ap-
proved November Ist, 1870.
Approved March 4, 1871.
1. Be it enacted, That the fifth section of an act entitled an
act to provide a charter for the town of Front Royal, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“$5. The trustees of said town may,in their discretion,
levy a tax of not exceeding five hundred dollars upon the real
and personal property and other subjects of taxation withia
the corporate limits of said town, the value of which property
shall be ascertained in such manner as the trustees may think
best; and said trustees may also impose such other tax, and re-
quire such labor of males, between the ages of sixteen and sixty,
as may be lawful and constitutional; in consideration whereof,
the said town, and the taxable persons and property therein,
shall be exempt and free from the payment of any road tax,
for any year in which it shall appear that said town shall, at its
own expense, keep its own streets inorder. On failure to pay
the taxes and fines before mentioned, the sergeant of said town
is empowered to distrain for them, in case of an adult, in the
same manner as county taxes are distrained for; and in case of
an infant, from the parent or guardian of said infant.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage. ©
