Chap. 134.—An ACT to provide for the assessment and equalization of the assess-
ment of real estate in cities containing more than one hundred and seventy
thousand inhabitants. [S B 200]

\, Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That in
cities containing more than one hundred and seventy thousand in-
habitants, according to the latest United States census, the council
or other governing body may provide for the annual assessment and
equalization of assessments of real estate, and to that end may elect
one or more persons to assess such real estate and to equalize such as-
sessments, and may prescribe his or their duties and fix his or their
compensation, which shall be paid out of the local treasury. Such
council or other governing body may likewise provide for such cleri-
cal assistance or other expense as may be properly incident thereto.
From any such assessment, an appeal may be had in the manner pro-
vided by section four hundred and fourteen of the tax Code of
Virginia.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict herewith are hereby re-
pealed.
