Chap. 40.—An ACT to Authorize the Consolidation of the Orange, Alexan-
dria and Manassas Railroad Company and the Lynchburg and Danville
Railroad Company.
Approved January 14, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the Orange,
Alexandria and Manassas railroad company and the Lynchburg
and Danville railroad company, be and they are hereby autho-
rized to consolidate and torm one company, under the name of
The Virginia and North Carolina Railroad Company, upon
such terms, not inconsistent with the laws regulating railway
corporations, as may be agreed upon by said companies: pro-
vided, that such consolidation shall be approved and such agree-
ment ratified and confirmed by a majority of the stockholders
of each of said companies present or represented at any annual
meeting thereof, or at a meeting of said stockholders called
for the purpose, thirty days’ public notice of the time and place
of holding the same, and the object thereof, having been given,
and any subscription made or which may be made by either
company to the stock of the other, before such consolidation
is hereby declared legal and valid. |
2. When said consolidation is effected, as aforesaid, the char-
ters, all the rights, authorities, privileges, franchises, effects,
and estate of the said companies shall pass and enure to the
said consolidated company, by virtue of this act. °
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
