Chap. 36.—An ACT Authorizing the Dismal Swamp Canal Company to
Issue Eight Per Cent. Bonds.
Approved January 14, 1871.
I. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That it may and
shall be lawful for the Dismal Swamp canal company, in addi-
tion to the bonds authorized by the act entitled an act author-
izing the Dismal Swamp canal company to issue eight per
centum bonds, passed December sixth, eighteen hundred and
sixty-six, to issue coupon bonds, bearing interest at the rate of
eight per centum per annum, the principal to be paid at such
time and place as may be deemed by the company most expe-
dient, and the interest to be paid semi-annually at such place.
as may be determined on for the payment of the principal of
such bonds: provided, that the whole amount of bonds which
shall be issued under this act, shall not exceed the sum of one
hundred thousand dollars.
2. Be it further enacted, That the said company be and
they are hereby authorized to sell and dispose of the bonds
authorized by this act in such mode and on such terms as
they may deem advisable, and to give such security for the
punctual payment of the said bonds as they may deem expe-
dient. .
3. This act shall be in force from and after the confirmation
of the same by the legislature of North Carolina.
