Chap. 302.—An ACT to Authorize F. W. Jett to Erect a Pier Head on
Hampton Bar, in the Waters of Hampton Roads. .
Approved March 31, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the privilege
of erecting a pier head on Hampton bar, in the waters of
Hampton roads, for the accommodation and convenience of
shipping, and for other purposes, be and is hereby granted to
F. W. Jett, of Elizabeth City county: provided, the said pier
head shall in no wise interfere with navigation.
2. That it shall be lawful for the said F. W. Jett to carry
on upon said pier head, when erected, any business or occupa-
tion in which it is lawful for any citizen of this commonwealth
to engage on land: provided, that the said F. W. Jett shall
comply with the license laws now in force, and that may here-
after be enacted by the general assembly.
3. That the rates of toll to be charged by the said F. W.
Jett for receiving and shipping freight, shall be fixed by the
county court of Elizabeth City county.
4, That the privilege hereby granted to the said F. W. Jett,
shall be enjoyed by him exclusive of all others, for the space of
five years trom the passage of this act.
o. This act shall be in force from its passage, shall be subject
to all general laws of the state, and to modification and repeal,
at the pleasure of the general assembly.
