Chap. 299.—An ACT to Exempt Licensed Butchers or Keepers of Stalls or
Steres from the Penalties Imposed by the Act Passed April 19, 1867, for
Canvassing for Matters of Subsistence Designed as Food for Man or
Beast.
Approved March 31, 1871.
1, Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the penalties
imposed by the twenty-second section of the act passed April
nineteenth, eighteen hundred and sixty-seven, entitled an act
amending an act amending the thirty-eighth chapter of the
Code (edition of eighteen hundred and sixty), in relation to
the assessment of taxes on licenses, passed February thirteenth,
eighteen hundred and sixty-six, shall not be construed to apply
to licensed butchers, or keepers of stalls or stores, who have,
since the said nineteenth day of April, eighteen hundred and
sixty-seven, canvassed any county or corporation of this com-
monwealth and purchased or offered to purchase matters of
subsistence designed as food for man or beast: provided, that
nothing herein contained shall be construed as releasing any
fine already imposed in prosecutions under said section.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
