Chap. 276.—An ACT to Amend the 27th Section of the School Bill.
Approved March 30, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
section twenty-seven of an act approved July eleventh, eighteen
hundred and seventy, entitled an act to establish and maintain
a uniform system of public free schools, be amended and re-en-
acted so as to read as follows:
“§ 27. Until farther provided, the districts shall correspond
in boundaries with the townships, except that incorporated
towns of more than five hundred and less than five thousand
inhabitants shall, if the council of such town so elect, consti-
tute a separate school district; and upon the application of
such council, the board of education shall appoint school trus-
tees for such town, under the provisions of the sixteenth sec-
tion of this act.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
