Chap. 269.—An ACT to Regulate the Sale of Strychnine, Arsenic, Corrosive
Sublimate or Prussic Acid, by Druggists and Others. ;
Approved March 80, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
every apothecary, druggist, merchant, or any other person who
sells or delivers any strychnine, arsenic, corrosive sublimate, or
prussic acid, shall have the word “poison” written or printed
on the label thereof, and shall note in a book, to be kept by
such persons for that purpose, to whom such poison was sold
or delivered, the date of delivery, and the kind and amount of
such poison so delivered, and shall keep such book open for
inspection.
2. That any person violating the provisions of this act shall,
on conviction, be fined not less than twenty nor more than one
hundred dollars: provided, that the provisions of this act shall
not apply to the prescriptions of regular practicing physicians.
3. This act shall be in force from its passage.
