Chap. 264.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact the 64th Section of an Act
Entitled an Act to Establish and Maintain a Uniform System of Public
Free Schools, Approved July 11, 1870.
Approved March 30, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That
the sixty-fourth section of the act entitled an act to establish
and maintain a uniform system of public free schools, be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
““§ 64. The sense of the voters of any county in regard to
the raising of additional sums by taxation for the support of
public free schools in the county, for the next scholastic year,
shall be taken every year in connection with the township elec-
tions in May. Notice of such special election having been
given at least thirty days before such election, by advertise-
ment at the front door of the courthouse of the county, and
at one or more voting places in the township. The vote in
the school districts, touching a similar tax for the support of
public free schools therein, shall be conducted according to regu-
lations to be prescribed by the board of education.”
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
