head of a family; and to provide for the securing of a living wage to work-

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion six thousand five hundred and fifty-five of the Code of Vir-
ginia, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 6555. In addition to the estate, not exceeding in value
two thousand dollars and the other property, which every house-
holder or head of a family residing in this Commonwealth shall be
entitled to hold exempt, as provided in the preceding sections of
this chapter, wages owing or to be owing to a laboring man who is
a houscholder or head of a family, to the extent of fifty dollars per
month shall also be exempt from distress, levy, garnishment or
other process; and any assignment, sale, transfer, pledge or mort-
gage thereof shall be void and unenforceable by any process of law.
