Chap. 516.—An ACT to authorize the State highway commission of Virginia to
join with the State roads commission of Maryland to purchase the interstate
highway bridge and approaches over the Potomac river near Point of Rocks,
Maryland, and to use funds appropriated for the construction of roads and
bridges in the State highway system for such purpose, to provide for the
vesting of title to said bridge and approaches jointly in the Commonwealth
of Virginia, and State of Maryland, in each an undivided one-half interest;
to authorize the board of supervisors of Loudoun county to join with the
State roads commission of Maryland to purchase the interstate highway
bridge and approaches over the Potomac river, at Brunswick, Maryland, and
the vesting of title to said bridge and approaches jointly in the board of
supervisors of Loudoun county and the State of Maryland, in each an un-
divided one-half interest; to provide for the charge and collection of tolls
on said bridges and the ‘application of such tolls on the purchase price of
the interstate highway bridge and approaches, over the Potomac river at
Brunswick, Maryland, until such purchase price shall be paid in full, and
to make both such bridges and approaches thereafter free of tolls; to provide
for the payment of one-half of the cost of repair, operation and maintenance
of the bridge and approaches near Point of Rocks, Maryland, from funds
appropriated for the maintenance of roads in the State highway system, and
for the payment of one-half of the cost of repair, operation and maintenance
of the bridge and approaches at Brunswick, Maryland, by the board of super-
visors of Loudoun county out of county road funds, and to repeal previous
acts relating to the purchase of such bridges, approved March 17, 1926, and
March 23, 1926 respectively. [fH B 201]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the State
highway commission be and is hereby authorized and empowered to
join with the State roads commission of Maryland to purchase and
acquire the interstate highway bridge and approaches, over the Poto-
mac river near Point of Rocks, Maryland, connecting Virginia State
highway route number two (now known as route thirty-two) with the
Maryland State highway system, and to pay one-half of the purchase
price thereof, said one-half not to exceed the sum of fifty thousand
dollars ($50,000), out of funds appropriated for the construction of
roads and bridges in the State highway system, provided the State of
Maryland shall pay the other one-half. ‘Title to the said bridge and
approaches shall be vested jointly in the Commonwealth of Virginia
and the State of Maryland, in each an undivided one-half interest.
2. That the board of supervisors of Loudoun county be and is
hereby authorized and empowered to join with the State roads com-
mission of Maryland, to purchase and acquire the interstate highway
bridge and approaches, over the Potomac river at Brunswick, Mary-
land, connecting county highway number nine with the Maryland State
highway system, at a price not to exceed the sum of one hundred thou-
sand dollars ($100,000). Title to the said bridge and approaches
shall be vested jointly in the board of supervisors of Loudoun county
and the State of Maryland, in each an undivided one-half interest.
3. That the State highway commission be and is hereby authorized
to provide for the charge and collection of tolls for the use of said
bridges and approaches at the same rates of toll now in effect, and for
the application of the tolls collected, after the payment of the costs of
collection, on the purchase price of said bridge and approaches at
Brunswick, Maryland, at a price not to exceed the sum of one hun-
dred thousand dollars ($100,000) and interest thereon, until said
purchase price and interest thereon is fully paid, provided, that there-
after both of said bridges and approaches shall be free of tolls.
4. That the State highway commission be and is hereby authorized
and empowered to provide for payment of one-half of the cost of re-
pair, operation and maintenance of the bridge and approaches near
Point of Rocks, Maryland, if said bridge and approaches are acquired
hereunder, from funds appropriated for the maintenance of roads
and bridges in the State highway system, provided the State of Mary-
land shall pay the other one-half.
5. That the board of supervisors of Loudoun county be and 1s
hereby authorized, empowered and directed to provide for the payment
of one-half of the costs of repair, operation and maintenance of the
bridge and approaches at Brunswick, Maryland, if said bridge and
approaches are acquired hereunder, out of the county or district road
funds, provided the State of Maryland-shall pay the other one-half.
6. That the State highway commission and the board of super-
visors of Loudoun county be and is hereby authorized to enter into anv
and all agreement not inconsistent with this act deemed by them neces-
sary to carry out the purpose thereof, both for acquiring the said bridges
and approaches, paying therefor, and for the repair, operation and
maintenance thereof, provided, there shall be incorporated in an agree-
ment with the State of Maryland a covenant on the part of the State
of Maryland that no effort will at any time be made by the State of
Maryland or any subdivision thereof to levy, assess or collect any tax
upon the interest or title by the Commonwealth of Virginia or any
political subdivision thereof in either of said bridges or approaches.
7. That an act entitled an act to authorize the State highway com-
mission of Virginia to join with the State roads commission of Mary-
land to purchase the interstate highway bridge and approaches, over
the Potomac river near Point of Rocks, Maryland, and to use funds
appropriated for the construction of roads and bridges on the State
highway system for such purpose, approved March seventeen, nine-
teen hundred and twenty-six, and an act entitled an act to authorize
the board of supervisors, or the supervisor of any magisterial district.

and to provide funds for such purpose, approved March twenty-third
nineteen hundred and twenty-six, be and they are hereby repealed.
An emergency existing, this act shall be in force from its passage.
