Chap. 341.—An ACT to amend and re-enact chapter 303 of the acts of the gen-
eral assembly of Virginia, entitled “an act to permit females to qualify, give
bond, and act as deputy clerks, in all the courts of this Commonwealth; and
to validate certain acts heretofore performed by females acting as such
deputy clerks,” approved March 19, 1920. [S B 349]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That chapter
three hundred and three of the acts of the general assembly of Vir-
ginia, approved March twentieth, nineteen hundred and twenty be
amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1, That any female over the age of eighteen years may be
appointed deputy clerk by the clerk of any court of this Common-
wealth, and with the consent of the court may qualify and give bond
as such, and thereafter perform all the duties of such office as fully
and effectually as if she were a male, and the court shall not refuse to
approve any such appointment solely because such appointee is a female.
Section 2. All acts performed by females as such deputy clerks of
any of the courts of this Commonwealth since the thirteenth day of
January, nineteen hundred and twenty, are hereby declared valid and
effective in all respects, if otherwise valid and effective according to
the law then in force.
Section 3. An emergency existing this act shall be in force from
its passage.
