Chap. 299.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of the
county of Rockingham to adopt an ordinance or regulation requiring land-
owners along the public roads of said county to keep free of weeds, brush and
other foreign vegetation their land abutting such public roads. [H B 335]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of the county of Rockingham be, and it is hereby,
authorized and empowered to adopt an ordinance or regulation, which
shall be entered of record on its order book, requiring all landowners
along any or all of the public roads of said county to keep clean all
weeds, brush or other foreign vegetation, for a distance of five feet
back from the road line, or to where any of his crops may be growing.
2. If any landowner permits the growth of weeds, brush or other
foreign vegetation in the space herein mentioned, he shall be notified
by the board of supervisors to clear the same, and if he fails to do so
for thirty days after such notice is given, the board of supervisors may
cause the same to be removed, and the cost of such removal shall be a
charge upon said landowner, recoverable by appropriate action at law,
as other debts may be recovered.
