Chap. 259.—An ACT to amend and re-enact sections 89 and 200 of the Code of
Virginia, as amended by chapter 521 of the acts of 1926, relating to the pay
of officers and members of electoral boards. [H B 172]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sections
eighty-nine and two hundred of the Code of Virginia, as amended by
chapter five hundred and twenty-one of the acts of nineteen hundred
and twenty-six, be amended and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 89. Each member of the electoral board shall receive from
the county or city, respectively, for each day of actual service the sum
of five dollars, and the same mileage as is now paid jurors; provided,
that no member of such board shall receive more than twenty-five dol-
lars in any one year exclusive of mileage, unless one or more special
elections be held in such year, in which event the members of the elec-
toral board shall be paid additional amounts at the same per diem, and
mileage; but the secretary of such board shall in addition to the per
diem herein provided for be allowed his expenses not to exceed twenty-
five dollars in any one year, and the council of any city containing
more than fifty thousand inhabitants may provide additional compensa-
tion for members of the electoral board, which shall not be less than
one hundred dollars for the secretary and twenty-five dollars for each
other member of the board. The counties and cities shall furnish the
necessary postage and stationery, including a bound book for the
minutes of its proceedings, for the use of the board. Each member of
the electoral board, before he shall be entitled to receive any amount
under this section, shall make out a statement under oath, of his claim,
and the secretary shall, in addition, make out under his oath, a state-
ment of postage and stationery used by the board, and the statements
when so made out and found correct shall be paid by the board of
supervisors of the county or council of the city for which such board
was appointed.
Section 200. The judges, clerks, registrars, and commissioners of
any election shall receive as compensation for their services the sum
of five ($5.00) dollars each for each day’s service rendered, and the
judge carrying the returns and tickets to and from his voting place
and to the county clerk’s office and the commissioners of election shall
receive the pay and mileage now allowed to jurors for each mile neces-
sarily traveled, to be paid out of the treasury of the county, city or
town in which the election is held.
