1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That in addi-
tion to the powers heretofore conferred on the several boards of
supervisors of the counties and the councils or other governing bodies
of the cities of this Commonwealth, said boards, councils or other
governing bodies shall have the power to provide for the collection,
preservation, editing, printing and distribution of the histories of each
of the several counties and cities, and to provide the means for the
preservation, collection, editing, printing and distribution of such
histories. ]
