Chap. 178.—An ACT establishing a commission to formulate, and to carry into
effect, plans for the observance of the 150th anniversary of the surrender
of Cornwallis at Yorktown, Virginia, on October 19, 1781. fH B 154]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That a com-
mission of ten members is hereby created for the purposes of this act.
The governor, president of the senate and the speaker and the clerk of
the house of delegates shall be members thereof. The other members
shall be appointed as follows: one by the president of the senate, one
by the speaker of the house of delegates and four by the governor. The
said commission, in conjunction with other commission, appointed by
the United States Congress, the State of Virginia and other States of
the United States, and by any municipality in the United States, civic
association, or other representative organization, shall arrange for the
holding of a fitting celebration for the one hundred and fiftieth anni-
versary of the surrender of Cornwallis, at Yorktown, in this State,
which falls on the nineteenth day of October, nineteen hundred and
thirty-one.
2. That there be, and is hereby, appropriated, out of the State treas-
ury, not otherwise appropriated, the sum of five hundred dollars, to
defray the expense of carrying out the provisions hereof, to be paid by
warrant of the comptroller, upon order of the chairman of the com-
mission, countersigned by the secretary.
3. The commission shall assemble upon the call of the governor, as
soon as is practicable, shall select a chairman and secretary from the
membership of the commission, and may employ such clerical assistance
as may be necessary to carry out the purposes hereof.
4. The members of the commission shall recerve no compensation
for their service; but their actual and necessary traveling, hotel and
other expenses, incurred in the discharge of their duties hereunder, and
the expenses of such clerical assistance as may be required, shall be
paid out of the fund appropriated hereby.
