Chap. 155.—An ACT to confirm in the State corporation commission of Vir-
ginia the jurisdiction, powers and duties, as conferred on said commission by
the Constitution and general laws of this State, with respect to the control
and regulation of the street railway rates and service of any public service
corporation doing a street railway business in any city in this State, having
a population, according to the 1920 United States census of not less than
100,000 and not exceeding 150,000, under a franchise heretofore granted, re-
newed, extended or amended, or which may be hereafter granted, renewed,
extended or amended by such city, notwithstanding any provision in the
municipal charter of said city to the contrary or in conflict or inconsistent
with this act. [S B 109]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That not-
withstanding any provision to the contrary or in conflict or incon-
sistent herewith contained in any municipal charter heretofore
granted by the State of Virginia to any city of this Commonwealth
having a population, according to the nineteen hundred and twenty
United States census, of not less than one hundred thousand not
exceeding one hundred and fifty thousand, the State corporation
of Virginia shall have the same jurisdiction, powers and duties,
with respect to the control and regulation of the street railway rates
and service of any public service corporation doing a street railway
business in any such city under a franchise which has heretofore
been granted, renewed, extended or amended, or which may here-
after be granted, renewed, extended or amended by such city, as
are conferred on said commission by the Constitution and general
laws of this State, with respect to the control and regulation of said
rates and service of any such corporation doing such business in
the other cities and towns of this Commonwealth, under franchises
granted by such other cities and towns to which the State has not
granted municipal charters, purporting to confer on said cities and
towns such powers and duties of control and regulations. But noth-
ing in this act shall affect the right of such cities to regulate the
rates or service of persons or corporations operating a bus or motor
transportation service therein, so far as exists under the law at the
present time.
2. All acts or parts of acts in conflict herewith, or inconsistent
with the provisions of this act, are hereby repealed.
