Chap. 142.—-An ACT to amend the charter of the city of Fredericksburg.

Whereas by an act of March fifth, eighteen hundred and twenty-
one, entitled an act to amend the charter of the corporation of Fred-
ericksburg ; and

Whereas by an act of March twenty-third, eighteen hundred and
seventy-one, entitled an act to amend the charter of the town of Fred-
ericksburg, control of the police officers of said city was placed under
the control of the mayor thereof; now, therefore,

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That control
of the police force of said city, as now or hereafter constituted, shall
be under the direction and control of the common council of the said
city, or of such official of said city as may be designated by the coun-
cil by ordinance.

So much of said acts of March fifth, eighteen hundred and twenty-
one, and March twenty-third, eighteen hundred and seventy-one, as
conflict herewith, are hereby repealed.
