Chap. 132.—An ACT to authorize and empower the board of supervisors of
Henrico county to appoint special policemen for said county; to prescribe
their compensation, and terms of office, and to repeal all acts and parts of
acts inconsistent with this act, insofar as they apply to the county of Hen-
rico. [Hi B 185]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That the
board of supervisors of Henrico county be, and it is hereby, author-
ized and empowered to appoint special policemen for so much of the
said county as 1s not embraced within an incorporated town located in
the county, who shall be suitable and discreet persons, and who shail
serve for such length of time as the board of supervisors shall deter-
mine, but subject to removal at the pleasure of the board. Betcre any
person shall be appointed a policeman hereunder, he shall be a quaiited
voter and actual resident of the said county, and shall make appl'cation
for such appointment to the board of supervisors, which application
shall state the applicant’s full name, age, place of residence, occupa-
tion, and by whom regularly employed. Such person or persons so
appointed shall be conservators of the peace in said county. The boara
of supervisors may fix the compensation of any special policemen ap-
pointed hereunder, which, together with any expense incurred in the
execution of their duties, shall be paid out of the county levy. No
policeman appointed hereunder, who is otherwise regularly employed,
and whose duties as policeman are merely incidental to such private
employment, shall be deemed to be an employee of the State or county
within the meaning of the Virginia workmen’s compensation act.
2. All policemen appointed under section forty-seven hundred and
ninety-seven of the Code of Virginia, and acts amendatory thereof,
shall remain in office until the expiration of the terms for which ap-
pointed, unless sooner removed by the board of supervisors.
3. Before entering upon the duties of their office the person or
persons appointed under the provisions of this act shall give bond in
the penalty of one thousand dollars, with approved security before
the county clerk with condition to faithfully discharge their official
duties.
4. All acts and parts of acts inconsistent with this act are hereby
repealed insofar as the same apply to the county of Henrico.
