Chap. 177.—An ACT to Enlarge the Accommodations of the Central Lu-
natic Asylum.
Approved March 22, 1871.
Whereas, it appears to the general assembly that the existing
buildings at the present site of the Central lunatic asylum are
insufficient to provide for the reception and care of many lu-
natics who are now lying in the county jails of the state, and
the consequence thereof is both to impose a larger expense
upon the public treasury for the support of these unfortunates
than would be incurred by their maintenance at said asylum,
and also to render it impossible that the needful curative in-
fluences be extended to such persons: therefore,
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the sum of
four thousand dollars be and the same is hereby appropriated
out of the public treasury for the purpose of so enlarging the
said buildings as may afford adequate accommodations for the
reception and treatment of such lunatics, which sum shall be
drawn from the treasury by the orders, upon the auditor of
public accounts, of the superintendent of said asylum, under
he authority and approval of the board of directors of said
asylum.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
