Chap. 151.—An ACT to Incorporate the Conference of Saint Mary of the
Society of Saint Vincent of Paul in the City of Alexandria.
Approved March 18, 1871.
1. Be it enacted, That the Rev. Thomas McDonoughi,
Richard LL. Carnes, Victor Beeker, Richard M. Latham, An-
thony Moran, and Seymour B. Stoutenburgh, and such other
persons as are now, or may hereafter be associated with them,
be and are hereby incorporated and made a body politic, under
the title of The Conferences of Saint Mary of the Society of
Saint Vincent of Paul in the city of Alexandria, and as such
shall have power to sue and be sued, contract and be contracted
with, and bay, sell, or lease real or personal property in o1
near said city: provided, that it shall not hold or possess at
any one time property to an amount exceeding two hundred
thousand dollars.
2. That for the purpose of assisting widows, orphans, 01
the poor, or for the establishment of schools or houses 0!
refuge or asylums, the said conference may receive such dona
‘tions or bequests as may be made to it by charitably disposed
persons, and with the proceeds of such donations or bequests
or with means furnished by its own members, may establisl
asylums for aged persons or for orphans, reformatories, 01
schools, and support and manage the same.
3. That the said conference may make any rules and regula
tions for its own government, or for that of the asylums, re
formatories, or schools under its charge: provided, the same be
not in conflict with the constitution and laws of the United
States, or the constitution and laws of this commonwealth.
4, This act shall be subject to modification or amendment
at the pleasure of the general assembly, and to all general laws
now in force, or which may hereafter be passed in relation to
incorporated companies.
5. This act shall be in force from and after its passage.
