Chap. 128.—An ACT to Amend and Re-enact Section 5 of an Act entitled
an Act to Amend an Act Authorizing John Lynch, Sr., to Build a Toll
Bridge Across James River, at the Town of Lynchburg, and for Other
Purposes, passed February 18, 1812.
Approved March 15, 1871.
1. Be it enacted by the general assembly, That the fifth sec-
tion of the act entitled an act to amend an act authorizing
John Lynch, Senior, to build a toll bridge across James river,
at the town of Lynchburg, and for other purposes, passed Feb-
ruary eighteen, eighteen hundred and twelve, be amended and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:
“§ 5, And be it further enacted, That the said company are
and shall be authorized to issue new stock, in shares of one
hundred dollars each, whenever, and to such extent, not ex-
ceeding twenty thousand dollars, as shall be necessary for the
purpose of rebuilding or repairing the said bridge, in case of
the total or partial destruction of the same; and so soon as
the said bridge shall be complete, or open for transportation
and travel, the said toll bridge company shall be entitled to re-
ceive a rate of tolls not exceeding for a foot passenger, horse,
mule, or work ox, three cents; man and horse, six cents; for
every carriage, five cents per wheel; for every head of neat
cattle, two cents; for every sheep, hog, or goat, one cent; and
be subject to the same penalties, rules, and regulations, and all
persons offending shall also be subject to the said company, as
pointed out in the first section of the before recited act.”.
2. This act shall be in force from its passage.
