Chap. 86.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 3153 of the Code of Virginia
relating to oyster inspectors. [S B 122

I. Ee it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sectior
thirty-one hundred and fifty-three of the Code of Virginia be amendec
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 3153. As soon as practicable the commissioner of fisherie:
shall divide the territory over which he has jurisdiction into district:
and in doing so he shall re-district such territory with a view to reduc.
ing the number of inspection districts to the smallest number commen:
surate with the efficient enforcement of all of the laws of this State
relating to fish, oysters, clams, and all other shell fish. This power shal
be a continuing power and may be exercised at any time.
On or before the first day of August, nineteen hundred and thirty.
the commissioner shall appoint for each of said districts one or more
inspectors or deputy inspectors, whose terms of office shall begin the
hrst day of September, nineteen hundred and thirty, and continue dur-
ing the pleasure of the commissioner. |
The commissioner shall fill all vacancies occurring in the office of
inspector and shall appoint additional inspectors, abolish any office
or consolidate two or more offices into one whenever he deems it ad-
visable.
Fach inspector shall be required to devote his time exclusively to
he performance of his duties and each inspector shall be paid for such
services a minimum basic salary of nine hundred dollars per year to be
supplemented by additional compensation in the discretion of the com-
nissioner of fisheries, which may in his discretion be based in part on
evenue collected, not to exceed twenty-four hundred dollars per year,
ncluding said basic salary of nine hundred dollars.
All inspectors and all other employees in the service shall be sub-
ect to the direction and control of the commissioner as to their official
cts, and the commissioner shall have the power to remove from office
t any time, any or all inspectors and other employees for any cause
hat he may deem sufficient.
Fach inspector shall be required to make a daily report of his activi-
ies to the commissioner and such other reports as may be required
y him.
