Chap. 70.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 835 of the Code of Virginia,
relating to the appointment of the board of visitors for the Virginia Military
Institute. [S B 211]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
ion eight hundred and thirty-five of the Code of Virginia be amended
ind re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 835. There shall be a board of visitors for the institution
omposed of the adjutant general, the superintendent of public instruc-
ion, and nine other persons selected from the State at large, who shall
appointed and commissioned by the governor, subject to confirmation
y the senate. The said nine members of the board who are in office
vhen this Code takes effect shall continue in office until their respec-
ive terms expire. Within six months from July first, nineteen hundred
and twenty, and biennially thereafter, the governor shall, by and with
the consent of the senate, appoint, for a term of four years, the suc-
~essors of those whose terms are about to expire. If a vacancy occurs
in the office of a visitor at any time during his term, the governor shall
fill it by appointing another as visitor for such part of the term as
has not expired, subject to ratification or rejection by the senate at
the next session of the general assembly. Five members of said board
shall constitute a quorum for business. The said board may sue and
be sued for any cause or matters which have heretofore arisen, as well
as for any cause or matter which may hereafter arise.
2. An emergency existing, this act shall be force from and after
the date of its passage.
