Chap. 349.——An ACT to amend and re-enact section 1198 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, in relation to oleomargarine, process or renovated butter, so as to
define the same. [H B 227]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eleven hundred and ninety-eight of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 1198. For the purposes of this section and the five follow-
ing sections, oleomargarine, process or renovated butter, shall be de-
fined to be: All substances heretofore known as oleomargarine, oleo,
oleomargarine oil, butterine, lardine, suine, and neutral; all mixtures
and compounds of oleomargarine, oleo, oleomargarine oil, butterine,
lardine, suine, and neutral; all lard extracts and tallow extracts; and all
mixtures and compounds of tallow, beef fat, suet, lard, lard oil, fish
oil or fish fat, vegetable oil, annatto, and other coloring matter, intes-
tinal fat, and offal fat;—if (1) made in imitation or semblance of but-
ter, or (2) calculated or intended to be sold as butter or for butter,
or (3) churned, emulsified, or mixed in cream, milk, water, or other
liquid, and containing moisture in excess of one per centum or common
salt. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation, either
by themselves or by any officer, agent, servant or employee, to sell,
ship, consign, offer for sale, expose for sale, or have in possession with
intent to sell or store or keep along with any goods or merchandise
intended for sale or any materials entering into foods intended for
sale any oleomargarine, process or renovated butter, unless the same
shall be kept and presented in a manner and form separate and distinct
from pure butter and in such manner and form as will clearly show
its real character; and unless such person, firm or corporation shall in
all other respects comply with the provisions of the two following sec-
tions.
This section shall not apply to puff-pastry shortening not churned
or emulsified in milk or cream, and having a melting point of one hun-
dred and eighteen degrees Fahrenheit or more, nor to any of the fol-
lowing containing condiments and spices: salad dressings, mayonnaise
dressings, or mayonnaise products.
