Chap. 34.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 3008 of the Code of Virginia,
so as to provide an assistant attorney for the Commonwealth for the city
of Richmond. [H B 55]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sec-
tion three thousand and eight of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 3008. In every city, so long as it has a corporation court
or a separate circuit court, there shall be elected, for a term of four
years, by the qualified voters of such city, one attorney for the Com-
monwealth, who shall also, in those cities having a separate circuit
court, be the attorney for the Commonwealth for such circuit court;
provided, that for the city of Richmond, there shall be an assistant
attorney for the Commonwealth, who shall be appointed by the attor-
ney for the Commonwealth for said city, whose salary shall be fixed
by the attorney for the Commonwealth and the State comptroller,
which salary shall be a deductible expense under section thirty-five hun-
dred and sixteen of the Code of Virginia, as amended. The term of
office of such assistant shall be coterminous with that of his principal.
Nothing herein contained shall be construed to alter, change or vary
any special existing provisions of any city charter.
Z. This act shall become and be effective on and after January
first, nineteen hundred and thirty-one.
