Chap. 309.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 859 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, relating to the appointment of the board of visitors for the Virginia
Agricultural and Mechanical College and Polytechnic Institute. [S B 394]

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That section
eight hundred and fifty-nine of the Code of Virginia be amended and
re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 859. Appointment of visitors of the college—The gover-
nor, subject to confirmation by the senate, shall appoint as visitors of
said college eight persons selected from the State at large, some of
whom shall be farmers, mechanics and graduates of said college, and
some may be persons engaged in other vocations. The visitors in
office when this Code takes effect shall continue in office until their
respective terms expire. Within six months preceding July first, nine-
teen hundred and twenty, and biennially thereafter, the governor shall,
subject to the confirmation of the senate, appoint, for a term of four
years, the successors of the four whose terms are about to expire. If
a vacancy occur during the recess of the general assembly, the governor
shall fill it by appointment for the unexpired term of the late incum-
bent, subject to the ratification of the senate at the next session of the
general assembly. The eight persons so appointed, together with the
superintendent of public instruction and the president of the board of
agriculture, who shall be ex-officio members, shall constitute the board
of visitors.
