Chap. 286.—An ACT to amend and re-enact section 4033 of the Code of Vir-
ginia, in relation to express companies. [S B 293)

1. Be it enacted by the general assembly of Virginia, That sectiot
forty hundred and thirty-three, of the Code of Virginia, be amended
and re-enacted so as to read as follows:
Section 4033. What company shall receive for transportation.—
Whenever any corporation, company, association, or person, or part-
nership, shall obtain from a railroad, steamship, or steamboat company
of this State the right or privilege of transporting, carrying, or con-
veying in or upon any train run upon or over the railroad of such
company, or any steamship or steamboat traversing waters within the
jurisdiction of this Commonwealth, any articles or things for the pur-
pose of receiving compensation for the same, the said corporation, as-
sociation, or person shall receive and deliver any and all such articles
and things offered for transportation as are contemplated by and em-
braced in such contract, at any and all landings and stations on the
line or route covered by such contract at which such railroad, steam-
ship, or steamboat company keeps an agent, and receives and dis-
charges freight and passengers; provided, however, that the State
corporation commission, upon application made to it by any such cor-
poration, association or person, shall have the power and the authority
to relieve any such corporation, association or person from the duty and
obligation imposed by this section.
